28th November to 9th December

This has been the week of our Year 5 and 6 Christmas production so last week involved plenty of rehearsals for our pantomime - Sleeping Beauty or "The Princess of Avapillo" - and this week, after giving one performance to the school, we had two evening presentations.

In addition to continuing with our instruction writing activities, we have done some more comprehension, spelling and grammar work in English while, in maths, we finished our work on shape and returned to thinking about number, including negative numbers this week.

We made made good progress with our RE topic in which we are thinking about how artists show and represent religious ideas in their work. We began by studying three pictures by different artists depicting the annunciation, noting the symbols that were used and other ways in which the painters showed religious ideas. We then created our own pictures of a situation in which God was giving a message to people and wrote about the symbols and ideas we had represented. After learning about the story behind the Jewish festival of Hanukkah, we looked at a range of menorah design before drawing some and creating our own designs.

We have also spent some time on our Forces science topic. The focus of our learning this week has been air resistance as an example of a form of friction. In this, we investigated the effects of different sizes of parachutes and spinners.
