This week we have spent plenty of time on our technology progress and each group has made good headway with actually making their rides. Next week we should at least come close to finishing these. In our linked work on using ICT to control events, we did some more work with Control LOGO, programming an animated advert to produce a display also using sound.

We picked up our Kensuke's Kingdom work again by thinking about what it would be like to be present through a storm at sea and drafting a poem about this. We also did some more RE which focused, this week, on Buddhist worship and finished our series of lessons on sex education.

A few members of the class visited their new secondary school or had a visit from their new teachers. This will happen for more of us next week.

The teachers have two INSET days now - Friday and Monday.
School re-opens on Tuesday 30th June.

Currently our main work is:

• continuing our Kensuke's Kingdom work;
• doing a lot of technology (our topic is fairground rides);
• trying to complete our geography work on planning proposals
• developing our atlas skills and
• learning about Buddhism.

I am currently writing annual reports and so blog updates will be very infrequent!

In English we have done a little more of our work on Kensuke's Kingdom but our main writing activities this week have been connected to our geography studies about a local planning proposal. We are imagining that a supermarket chain are wishing to build a new supermarket on our school field. We did some field work, measuring the size of the field and distances to the site from (a) our school; (b) the nearest existing supermarket in the area and (c) the local old people's home. We have thought about the groups of people who would be affected and have possibly strong opinions about this proposal and started to draft a report showing these.

We have begun our new history topic about the Aztecs by identifying all the facts that we con about the life of the Aztecs from an artist's impression of village life in that civilization and then by learning about the origin of the civilisation.

Another area of work that we began this week was our technology project - Fairground Rides. We have looked at videos and photographs of rides to identify, discuss and write about the kinds of movement they employ and how they work.

In addition to these, we have done some maths, had our usual Tuesday French, PSHCE and PE session and had our final "tin whistle" lesson in music.
