We did some problem solving work (having a go a Lemmings on the internet) on Wednesday and also did some more work on our personal topics.

On Thursday we had a day's project in which everyone had to create a short movie showcasing their automaton. We all had a go at using a digital camera to make a short film clip. Then we created our films using a clip of the whole automaton, a close-up clip of the figure moving and a close-up clip of the mechanism. A title page was produced and pages giving further information and a credits page were made. Still pictures of the framework which formed the basis of the automaton could also be included. The results were very impressive.

We had to move out of the computer room on Thursday afternoon and, while this was being done, we watched the film of A series of unfortunate events.

Today the whole school had a video, Ice Age, and some children helped Mr Jennings begin to move things back into our classroom. We also completed our Record of Achievement folders and passed our records on the the teacher who will be teaching the class next year.

We have had a slightly unusual couple of days!

Our classroom is being painted so yesterday we had to move everything out of our room and store it in the corridor and work area so that the painters had room to work. While all this was going on the children began researching an area of our history topic in small groups. First they completed a KWL sheet and then created a simple topic web to guide their research before reviewing the books that we had available to provide them with information. Then they planned and wrote paragraphs about different areas of their topic in readiness for creating their information sheet.

Today we started off in the computer room and then watched and/or took part in a run-through of our summer music concert. (We are performing this again tonight.)

This afternoon we had our PE session with the YMCA and then our Spanish and handwriting sessions.

We have concentrated on finishing our automata ready for our final Assembly Book of the year which we had today. Many of the automata are fantastic and there is a great variety of design.

On Thursday we had our Sports Day. It was extremely hot and rather humid but everyone really worked hard and kept going very well through the whole afternoon. He had done some more work on Chapter 2 of The Iron Man before spending some of the morning setting up for the Sports Day activities. We also did our sponsored "Kick for Click" event in the morning and had the schools' dentist visit. The morning ended as we observed the silence at 12 noon.

We had our open day on Monday when parents and carers could come and see their children's work and discuss their progress.

In the last two day s we have spent quite a lot of time on our automata and many of the children are coming close to finishing their projects - altogether there are six different mechanisms being used on the automata of different children and they seem to be working out really well.

We have finished our last science topic of the year (Gases around us) and started a literature based topic using Ted Hughes book The Iron Man.

We finished our maths Key Objectives tests and also did some work looking at shape - thinking about symmetry, diagonals and looking for patterns in our investigations.

In literacy we have created a further persuasive poster - this time to encourage children to eat (or their parents to provide) five portions of fruit and/or vegetables in their diet every day. This linked up with our Healthy Living science work earlier in the year.

In geography we have thought abut the causes of floods, their effects and some of the ways in which people try to reduce the risk of flooding in their villages and homes.

We have spent some more time on our automata and today we had two visits to the infant school, to watch their end of term production and to be part of the opening ceremony for a new section of their playground.

In maths we have done some work on shape - thinking about and describing the properties of different shapes - and making sure that we can use mathematical terms correctly. We completed our persuasive posters encouraging people support efforts to improve the supply of clean water in Africa.

We have also spent some more time on our automata. The frameworks are complete and most of us have been working on the figures that will be showing the movement.

On Monday morning our Y2 buddies visited us and we helped them complete their information sheets which will be displayed in our school for their final visits and for the start of next term.

This afternoon we have had our YMCA session of PE and our Spanish and handwriting sessions.

We did some more work on long division in maths and in English started some more persuasive writing - this time producing a poster to encourage interest in the charity WaterAid to link with our geography topic on Rivers and Water.

In history we look at the residual evidence of the line of the old town walls of Nottingham which are still apparant in the street layout of the modern city and even clearer in the old maps of Nottingham from the 17th and 18th centuries.

We have continued with our technology topic. Almost all of us have now finished the structure on which we are going create our automata and some have started to create the figure which will be moving.
