We have moved on in our English to a unit of work based on classic children's fiction and filmed versions of these. We are thinking about The Wind in the Willows. We read the start of the book and then looked at a film version of this episode, thinking about the different ways that the story is told in the different versions.

Our maths has been varied this week and has included a range of maths problems, including multi-step problems and calculator problems. We have also spent some time learning how to interpret timetables (like bus and train timetables).

We have also worked hard to finish our automata in Design Technology. Most of us have also begun our evaluations - reflecting on how our products match the design criteria and identifying the particular strengths and weaknesses of our automata.

In addition to having our weekly science and PE sessions, on Wednesday morning we also visited our new teachers for next year.

As we came to the end of our Grandpa Chatterji work, we thought about the character of Grandpa and how this had been shown by the author. We also thought about how the character of Grandpa Leicester had changed through the story. We read the remainder of the book and then watched a film version of the story, discussing how this had been changed (and why) and whether the changed had been successful. Our maths this week included some problem solving work and also included some revision of ideas involving fractions, decimals and percentages. We finished the week by thinking about number sequences and how these can be explained.

We made further good progress in technology. Most of us had almost all the components needed to complete our automata and will hope to finish constructing these next week.

There were tow other special activities this week. On Monday we had a special history day when we had a "government game" which helped us investigate three different forms of government used in ancient Athens - monarchy, oligarchy and democracy. We played out the three different scenarios and reflected on them using Padlet (a sort of on-line Post-It wall) to give our own views of each. On Thursday we had our school music concert.
