13th to 17th June

We have continued with our English unit on persuasive writing this week by looking at persuasive writing techniques often used in advertisements. We thought about these in the abstract and identified them in adverts before creating adverts of their own. Our maths has focused on division (including expressing the "remainder" as a fraction or a decimal and knowing when to round up or round down to give the answer to a problem), work on factors and multiples and mental multiplication.

We have experimented with using Sketchup on the computer to create 3D models of buildings, including loading in images of our own artwork to start creating a "virtual art gallery".

We made further progress with out automata, finishing the axle mechanism and doing more work on our figures and finished our water-colour painting unit by completing our landscapes and doing more pictures with the chisel brush.

6th to 10th June

We have started a new unit in our English work this week. The focus is persuasive writing. We have started this by thinking about fact and opinion and writing factual accounts to compare with those using value-laden adjectives.

In maths, our work has covered imperial units of measurement and converting between these and their metric equivalents. So, we have been converting between yards, feet and metres; gallons, pints and litres; stones, pounds, ounces and kilograms and miles and kilometres. We have also done some multiplication, including long multiplication and long multiplication involving decimal numbers.

In addition to our Spanish, music, PE and swimming sessions, we did some PHSE work (thinking about our rights and responsibilities in different areas of our lives) and we finished the week with some art. We explored the kinds of marks that can be made with a chisel brush and then painted some plants - pot plants and wild flowers.
