Our poetry work in English has worked towards bringing our poetry on the theme of refugees to a publication standard as they will be displayed in the local shopping centre together with the Christmas nativity display. We then moved on to start some work on instruction writing in which, after analysing some example texts, we started to write our own. We are already quite good at writing instruction statements themselves, so our focus is on creating good opening and ending paragraphs to add to these in order to produce a really good, complete instruction text.

Angles has been the main focus of our maths work. We have learned to use a protractor to draw angles correctly as well as to measure them. We have also practiced estimating the size of angles and learned facts in order to be able to calculate angles in a right angle, on a straight line and about a point. We have also done some work on the properties of rectangles.

We had a special day last Thursday when we had a "Saxon Day". We worked together in Saxon "families" to farm and create possessions for ourselves. We had to spend some time working for the Thegn each week and plan our working hours, our leisure time and think about the effects of the weather and our well-being on the likely and actual harvest each year. When we gathered our harvest, the food had to be managed to last the whole year. At the end of the day we looked at each family situation and voted one of the groups to be the winner. (It had to be the one we thought had the best possessions and the most food in store.) One of the best moments of the day was market time when we could barter food and possessions with other families.

We have completed our art project on decorated pots by producing an evaluation of our product and a few extra biographical and other notes about Bodil Manz and Clarice Cliff.
