We have varied our activities in English this week, spending some time on poetry (thinking about Charles Causley's Colonel Fazackerley Butterworth-Toast poem, to complement the work we did on The Highwayman) doing some comprehension work and then turning our attention back to explanation writing for the last two days of the week. We have had similar variety in maths, spending time on writing large numbers (into the millions) in figures and in words, doing some more work on negative numbers and learning about six-figure map references.

Our science investigation this week concerned separating mixtures. We used sieving, filtering and other methods to separate mixtures of solids, sometimes needing to add water to float or dissolve one of the elements in the mixture.

In addition, we had our weekly Spanish lesson, our PE sessions and a technology afternoon when we investigated how to add strength to materials by folding and then experimented to find out which kind of cross-section beams can support the greatest load.
