In this first week after the half term break, we completed our work on The Highwayman poem. We considered the structure and organisation of the poem and created a new stanza of our own, trying to match the rhythmic and rhyme structure of the original ones.

Our maths has focused on angles and shape work. We have learned to use a protractor to measure and draw angles after revising the terms for the names of different sized angles. We have also learned to calculate angles on a straight line and about a point by knowing that angles on a straight line add up to 180 degrees and that angles about a point add up to 360 degrees. At the end of the week, we moved on to work on shape and space - thinking about symmetry of shapes, reflecting shapes and translating shapes.

We have started the next unit of our learning in geography as we think about how a river changes from its source to mouth. We used a textbook to make notes about the features of the upper, middle and lower courses of a river ready to use these to create a report next week.

In art we wrote up an account of the journeys we created in our Aborigine-style paintings and produced a key to explain the symbols that we devised for the "modern journey" part of our pictures.
