19th to 23rd October 2015

In this last week before half-term, we have had short tests in reading and maths in addition to our usual areas of learning.

A main focus for this week was concluding our Art and Design project. Having investigated the work of Bodil Manz and Clarice Cliff, drawn some of their designs and created some designs in similar styles, we developed some designs for our cylindrical pots which combined elements of both Bodil Manz and Clarice Cliff. Today we reproduced these on our pots (using felt pens) on pain painted background done earlier in the week. We also wrote a short report about our project and what we had learned.

In English, unusually, we did a series of unrelated pieces of work. In addition to the test, we did some comprehension work, planned and wrote another concrete poem about Autumn (using a different pattern to that which we used a couple of weeks ago) and wrote a short story in preparation for our work next half term. Our maths built on ideas introduced and practised last week, including more on factors of numbers and calculations, including division.

As well as this, and our PE and science sessions, we finished our tourism unit in our geography topic by thinking about the effects of too many tourists in particularly attractive and vulnerable landscapes by considering how some of these might be alleviated.

We are now on our half-term holiday.
