11th to 22nd May
In the last two weeks before our summer half-term holidays, we had our English "test week" and our annual Arts Week.
In addition to doing our "end of year" reading, writing and spelling tests, we have done a short unit of work on performance poetry. We read a number of "performance" and other poems and thought about what makes some particularly suitable for performance. In groups, we prepared poems for performance to the class, practising choral reading and matching the beat and rhythm of the lines as well as good diction and speed for performance. We also wrote performance poems of our own.
We have spent some time on another "coding" unit of work in computing, using the Scratch programming language to develop two games - a racing game and a ping pong game using variables to give scores. We also did some other programming activities to help us understand some programming concepts including sequencing, loops and variables.
In art, we created paintings of trees in a landscape, learning some different brush strokes and how to create shadow with water colour. We also did some card sculpture and, today, we had a visiting artist come to school to teach us some drawing and sketching techniques and then we painted sunflowers in the style of van Gogh.
