24th to 28th November

We began a new unit of work about instruction texts in English this week. This builds on work done in Year 3 and 4 about imperative verbs and sequence connectives and our focus it practise this, but concentrate on writing paragraphs to introduce and conclude instructions texts. We have been thinking about how writing these can allow us to include some persuasive language and increase the range of sentence structures used in the text and so increase variety.

Our maths has mainly involved multiplication activities with our time being spent mainly on an introduction to long multiplication and multiplication of decimal numbers. We learned and practised the processes in the computation of these calculations and used approximations to help us check that our answers were sensible.

We turned our attention in RE to Hanukkah and, after hearing the story which the celebration commemorates, we studied a range of menorah before producing our own designs which Jewish people may be comfortable using in their homes. We also started weaving in earnest, making good progress with our woven panels.
