In English this week, we have focussed on ways in which an author may convey a character's personality to the reader. We thought about the use of a character's actions, the words they speak and the way they say them. We explored this in stories and then re-told well-known stories but altered the typical characterisations. For example, we made Cinderella mean, we made Baby Bear a naughty child and we made the giant in Jack and the Beanstalk really kind and welcoming.

Our maths has concentrated on subtraction, multiplication and place value. We have practised written subtraction methods and mental subtraction of two digit numbers. We revised multiplying (and later dividing) numbers by 10, 100 and 1000 and then moved on to multiplying tens and units numbers by one digit mentally.

We have done a little more of our history work, improving our writing about the Saxon choice of a new home and then starting some learning about work in Saxon times. We have also made small starts to our geography work (by using an atlas to label continents and some countries on an outline map of the world) and our RE topic (by listing charities we know).

This week we also had another session with the ukulele, started a new class reading book and finished with a painting lesson, creating a pot plant still-life using a chisel brush and water-colour.
