We have continued our study of The Highwayman poem in English, tracking the actions of the different characters through the story and considering how the poet wished us to view those characters. We have "hot-seated" the main characters - Bess and the Highwayman himself - and have written a monologue from the point of view of one of these people. Some of us have also had the chance to investigate the way Alfred Noyes used colour in the poem.

This week has been test week in maths, when we have been reviewing our learning and checking progress at this mid-year point. Our new learning has involved doubling and halving decimal numbers, using brackets in number sentences and considering the order of operations and handling more complex examples when reflecting shapes and identifying lines of symmetry.

In view of the serious flooding around the country, we did some map work linked to our previous geography topic on Rivers. We used atlases to find the location of places in the country which have been most seriously affected and marked these on an outline map of the British Isles.

In addition, we finished off our Aboriginal-style stick paintings, had our weekly Spanish and PE sessions, created a racing game and a ping-pong game using Scratch in ICT and enjoyed reading the first half of The Iron Man together as our class story book.
