2nd to 13th December

We have done a mixture of fiction and non-fiction work in English, continuing our extended story work and bringing our instruction writing unit of work to completion. The final task in this topic was to write instructions for making a weaving frame. To extend our learning further, our final focus was to consider the purpose of the opening and ending sections in more detail and ensure that these paragraphs had clear but different focusses.

Work on time (including the twenty-four hour clock) has been on of the main areas of maths work this week. We have checked understanding of the twelve hour clock, telling the time and writing it in words and digital format and converted am/pm to 24 hour clock. We have also learned more about perimeter - calculating perimeters of regular shapes and rectangles - including rectilinear shapes where the length of one or more of the sides has to be calculated.

This week has been our Christmas concert week. We gave three performances of our "Baboushka" play and they went very well.

Between performances we have made good progress with our weaving, building up the woven panels to create the pictures. Some of us have actually finished the panels and these have been removed from the frames and the warp threads knotted up. Next week we will make these into our Christmas cards.

We have also done some more work on our RE topic on religious symbolism in art, looking at the Christingle and relating to the elements which make up the Christingle to what they represent and the meaning of these to people of the faith (in this case, Christian) community.
