4th to 8th February

This has been our mid-year test week and we have had tests in English (reading, writing, spelling and handwriting) and maths (mental maths and written maths - we have a calculator paper to do next week). We have also started work on our next English unit which focuses on myths and legends. We watched an animated version of the story of the Wooden Horse of Troy and did a written cloze exercise to help us understand the story and the characters. In maths, we did some work on decimal numbers and learned about tests of divisibility before thinking about "missing number" problems and ways of using a calculator to help answer these sorts of problems.

We began a new unit of work in history this week. Our new topic, about ancient Greece, started with us doing some problem solving activities set in the Greek "dark ages" to help us understand how and why the city states (polis) developed as they did. We also started a new unit of work in ICT. This is about graphics work and we used a bit-map program to create a picture so that we can compare methods and features of the images and application with those of a vector graphics program which we will use next week.

In addition to these lessons, we had our weekly science lesson and PE sessions.
