We have continued with our explanation writing unit in English this week, with a focus on writing in connection with our geography and history topics. At the start of the week we did further work on connectives that can be effectively used in explanation writing (thinking primarily about causal and logical connectives), writing similar sentences in a variety of ways. Then we drafted and wrote a text explaining the processes involved in the formation of a waterfall (linking with our geography work on rivers) and then a text explaining why the Saxon settlement in Nottingham was the place in the area which developed into a town.

Our maths work has been mainly concerned with solving maths problems presented in words (including two and three-step problems) and with measurement and estimation, but we have also continued developing our understanding of percentages.

One of the highlights of the week was "puzzle day" on Thursday when we had a special session of puzzles in the hall with one of our Year 6 classes. There were a variety of activities - some requiring a degree of physical dexterity, others requiring planning, others still, just great persistence and perseverance! In the afternoon we played some word puzzle games too.

We have made good progress with our weaving this week, starting to develop our pictorial designs with the threads and have also had our usual weekly Spanish and PE sessions.
