5th to 9th November
We began this week by making some good progress in technology, ensuring that everyone had finished making their weaving frame. This entailed sawing notches in the wood strips which form the ends of the frame (to hold the warp threads) and then, using card triangles and glue, to firmly fix the rectangular frame together.
The final task of our unit of work in instruction writing was to write instructions for someone to make a weaving frame. We drafted "what to do" and "what you need" sections before writing an introduction and ending to allow us to show different styles of writing as part of the whole text.
Later in the week, (from Wednesday onwards) we turned our attention to story writing. We have been thinking about the important features of good short stories, had a lesson about the writing and punctuation of direct speech and then wrote our own stories.
Our maths has been concerned with fractions, decimals and percentages. We have thought about fractions of shapes and numbers, matched fractions and decimal fractions, shaded percentages of shapes, identified percentages of dot patterns and calculated percentages of whole numbers.
We have also started to think about a new theme - light - which will link some of our science and our RE work. We developed a concept map and have listed sources of light.
