12th to 16th November
We have focussed on improving our writing style in fiction writing this week. We wrote stories and, with partners, improved aspects of them. Then we wrote a resolution and an ending for a story, again then reviewing this carefully and improving specific aspects - either punctuation, increasing the variety of sentence structures used or increasing the range of sentence types or connectives used.
Our maths has been concerned with percentages, fractions and decimals - matching these and finding fractions and percentages of quantities.
We have made good progress with our RE topic on symbolism and art in religion through a short unit on Hindu symbols. We studied different representations of Ganesha produced by Hindu artists and identified common features before reading about the meanings behind some of the symbols that the artists had used. Then we produced our own pictures of Ganesha, following the rules we had discovered that Hindu artists followed and using Hindu symbols. (Our Muslim children produced images, full of symbolism, representing Government.)
In addition, we had our weekly Spanish lesson, two sessions of PE, a singing session preparing for our Christmas production and everyone threaded up their weaving frame ready to start making our woven panels.
