Our English work this week has been based on the poem, The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes. We are studying this as an example of a narrative poem and, after reading it through twice and making sure that we understood the vocabulary with a dictionary exercise, we discussed the plot of the story and created a timeline of the events. We have analysed the verse and rhyme structure of the poem and thought about the author's use of simile, metaphor and aliteration. We have also tracked the way the author used colour images all through the poem and created a "WANTED" poster for the highwayman.

At the start of the week, our maths was concerned with the theme of probability, concentrating on the language of probability while, later in the week, we moved on to thinking about weight. We have converted weights from kilogram to gram units and recorded weights from different scales.

In our Lake District geography topic, we have moved from a consideration of farming and forestry to think about the way the landscape effects tourism and how tourists impact upon the landscape. We have looked at surveys showing why tourists go the Lake District on holidays or for day trips and looked at a popular site which has been damaged by the large numbers of visitors.

In addition to science and PE, we had an art afternoon on Thursday when we spent time on our Aboriginal-style stick paintings and we started a unit of work in ICT about digital video, starting to create a music video.
