In our last week before the autumn half-term holidays we returned to some fiction work in English. We have written story episodes  (on a theme linked to The Iron Man) with the objective of using good connectives to link ideas fluently and to show characters' feelings in the story.

At the beginning of the week we did a test covering all the key ideas that we had covered in maths lessons since the start of the year. During the rest of the week we did some more work on factors, multiples and calculations as well as revising ideas about converting measures and place value in decimal numbers which had been shown in our test to be the more difficult areas of work.

We have made further good progress with our wide ranging topic on rivers and water, thinking about the water cycle (and the effect of heating and cooling in the atmosphere) and writing about how waterfalls are formed. We had a special afternoon on Wednesday when we undertook an investigation into the factors affecting the speed of evaporation. We discussed the importance of controlling variables and changing only one variable in a science test, and then we worked in small groups to test a wide range of variables which might speed up the evaporation of water.

We had a gymnastics session in PE working on balances and shapes with partners and, today, we had an art lesson learning and trying out "pointillist" techniques in art before finishing with an opportunity to read and solve the challenge of an adventure book.

We are now on our school autumn half-term holiday and school reopens on Monday 1st November.
