19th to 22nd July

We have has a short week at school as Friday as been an INSET day (a training day for the teachers).
On Monday, we had a special music day on which we listened to a lot of different types of music. We wrote about some of them and drew some pictures in response to others. Another activity was composing and performing music using percussion instruments. We used glockenspiels and untuned percussion instruments (ones made of metal) to compose "chinese" style music with question and answer phrases played by different people. We practiced these, added beginning and ending sections, and then performed them to the class.

We had another special day on Wednesday when we all went to The Wheldon School for an Arts Day. We did a series of activities there on the theme of Africa. We tried African drumming, painting (in which we looked at colouration of African animals and produced masks based on one of the animals), music (singing songs set in Africa and playing them on electronic keyboards) and dance (in which we created a dance based on moves in an advertisement for the Football World Cup in South Africa). We had a really good day.

In between times, we did some more of our Lake District geography project and some maths.
