For our first week of the new term, we have begun a new unit of in English and have returned to a consideration of fiction. This time we are thinking about stories from other cultures and our main text if Grandpa Chatterji by Jamila Gavin. Our work has focussed on how writers reveal new characters and settings and we have also been thinking about the author's perspective on a character and aspects of the story which reflects the culture in which it is set. Early in the week we were checking up on our calculations work in maths and some of us have had another go at long multiplication. Then we moved on work on coordinates (which was linked to shape) and area of rectangles.

We have spent some time on our science this week. We have thought about the skeleton, the different kinds of joints we have in the body and how muscles work to help us move. After thinking about the effects of exercise on our bodies and the need for the muscles to obtain more oxygen and food when working, we measured our pulses (by feeling them and using pulse meters) both before and after taking exercise.

This afternoon, we continued with our art project based on the designs of Bodil Manz. We painted the background colour onto the pots we made at the end of last term (these had completely dried over Easter) and then most of us had time to apply the design. (We did this using felt pens for accuracy.)
