11th to 15th January
Like many up and down the country, our school has been coping with another week of difficult weather. We have been very fortunate in having a site manager who has worked hard to make our site safe and, despite the tricky conditions on roads and paths around, we have been able to stay open.
In class we have continued our work on play scripts. We have made notes about the key features of scripts and used an episode from The Iron Man and a fable (The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse) as bases to convert into scripts. We have been learning about the need to create extra dialogue to communicate meaning to the audience and the kinds of information that needs to be included in stage directions. We have also enjoyed the opportunity to read play scripts in groups and to work out a play starting with a story rather than a script.
In maths, our main work has focussed on tackling maths problems presented in words but we have also continued developing our ideas and understanding of decimal numbers.
We have had a couple of music and PE sessions and also done some history, completing our work on why Nottingham developed into a town during Saxon times. In science we thought about gases, finding out that gases have weight and that gases fill the spaces between objects and between particles in materials such as soil.
We finished the week with some art, trying a "one point perspective" activity from the internet.
