8th to 10th September
We have begun new units of work in English and maths.
In English, we are working on story writing. We have looked at two short stories (Rugby and the Snake and Mac's Short Adventure), thinking particularly about the structure/organisation of the story in terms of the opening, build-up, climax, resolution and ending. We have also written the beginning of a story (Goldilocks and the Three Bears) in three different ways - an action opening, a descriptive opening and beginning with dialogue.
In maths, our new unit of work is about number. We have working on negative numbers and decimals - ordering numbers, finding differences between numbers and thinking about the value of different digits in a number.
On Monday we did some more work on our Desert Island project, finding a gap in the rain to go outside and construct shelters out of anything we could find - just as we would have to if we have been shipwrecked on an island! Yesterday, we had our usual Tuesday afternoon pattern of French, followed by PSHCE and then PE lead by the YMCA.
This afternoon we began our history topic for the term. We will be studying aspects of life in Britain during World War 2, especially as it affected the children living at that time. We started today by looking at homes in the 1930s (considering the differences between homes in those days and our own) and then thinking about ways in which families made preparations to protect their home from the effects of bombing.
