22nd to 26th September

We have continued with our story writing unit in English, working on the climax and resolution of our stories. We have focused very closely on creating good, interesting sentences by using good connective and by starting sentences in different ways (which helps us to create different sentence structures).

Our maths has involved finding and understanding square numbers and triangular numbers in addition to some work on factors. We have found the factors of numbers up to fifty, using this to identify prime numbers, and we have also found the prime factors of different numbers by breaking down factor pairs until the only numbers being multiplied are prime numbers.

We had a special history afternoon on Wednesday in which we thought about the blackout. We studied reproductions of different sources of evidence from the time of the blackout (posters, newspaper adverts and reports, government papers), sorted information about the blackout and drafted a letter to a newspaper about the effects of the blackout upon families living at the time.

As well as this, we did music on Monday (cyclical patterns using open and closed sounds); French, PSHCE and PE on Tuesday; our final class swimming session on Thursday and our Friday English and maths groups this morning followed by a special PE activity with our family sports coordinator this afternoon.

N.B. Next Friday the school staff have an INSET day.
