15th to 19th September

This week we have continued to develop our understanding of story structure by thinking about how authors build up a story as they gradually share more information about characters and setting. We have also been working on improving our sentence writing. Our maths has focused on decimal numbers and use of brackets in calculations.

In history, we have used the internet to research information about Anderson shelters and, after making notes, wrote a paragraph about these to record our findings. Our Design Technology work is connected to this as we are learning about making strong structures. This week we tested different types of beams - square section, triangular section and circular section (cylindrical) beams - to find out which is the strongest.

We have also begun our first science topic of the year. This is called Forces in Action and to start off our work we did a practical activity measuring the forces involved in pulling rough and smooth soled shoes over different floor surfaces. Then we did some thinking about pushes and pulls.

We had French, PSHCE and PE on Tuesday and, on Thursday, we had our second swimming session.
