28th to 30th April

We have been thinking about the differences between formal and informal writing in English. We have looked at formal and informal letters and invitations, reading them to identify the features of these different styles. Next we worked together to re-write a letter (a job application) which was written in a very informal way, in a more formal, less personal style. Now we are writing a letter of complaint to a restaurant manager, trying to use a good formal style throughout the letter. (We are imagining that we have had a bad meal and poor service at the restaurant.)

In maths we have been working on measures (mainly capacity) and today began some work on the mean, median and mode. Our science revision has moved on to work on the properties of materials and reversible reactions and we have also had some more time on the BBC Bitesize website. Yesterday afternoon, in addition to our PE session, we went to watch the Year 5 Drug Awareness presentation.
