10th to 14th December

This has been our concert week in which we gave three performances of our Baboushka production. This was based on the Russian folk story about an elderly woman who played host to the wise men on their journey to visit the new born baby Jesus but who refused the opportunity to go with them to find the Christ-child. Later, regretting her decision, she set off to find the baby but, according to the legend, because the wise men and the star were long gone, she couldn't find her way and only arrived at Bethlehem after the Holy Family had departed. Consequently, she is said to be still wondering to this day and, we are told, children in some parts of Eastern Europe are told that presents left by their beds have been place there by the ever searching Baboushka.

In class we have begun units of work on newspaper reports in English, on number in mathematics and on light and how we see in science. We have also continued with our RE topic on Faith, symbolism and art, thinking about the meaning of light and dark in the Christmas story and personal reactions and feelings about light and darkness.
