After our DARE lesson we began our new unit of work about fractions and decimals. We are beginning by thinking about fractions and finding fractions of numbers. Today we were working on ways of solving problems like: What is four-fifths of two hundred and forty?
In English, we looked at the second part of the poem, The Highwayman. We read through the poem, making sure that we understood the story and then discussed the way the poet used alliteration and onomatapoeia - especially the way that the author creates the impression of the sound of the horse.
In ICT we started a unit of work using spreadsheets. We are using Excel. We have not used this sort of programme before so we started by looking at a simple spreadsheet set up as a function machine. We learned some of the vocabulary connected with spreadsheets (column, row, cell, function, etc.) and then experimented with the spreadsheet, first by changing the input values of the function machine and then by changing the function itself. We finished by looking at and changing the values in a more complicated spreadsheet.
