10th January
The first day of a new term.
This is a very short term and it is important that we get straight back into the swing of things in class. We began a new topic of study in English thinking about how we access information from texts. We discussed use of contents and index pages and the use of reading strategies such as close reading, skimming and scanning. We answered questions set about an encyclopedia entry on Birds by scanning for key words that we identified in the questions to help us find the answers. We used the same techniques to complete some work in geography.
In the morning, we had our second DARE lesson and in maths began a unit on problem solving by revising work on multiples and factors and using factors to help answer some mental maths questions.
